Bread & Blossom is a play-based, nature-rooted preschool with a warm daily rhythm inspired by Waldorf early childhood traditions. We are a small, mother-daughter led, program in North Portland, Oregon for children ages 2 to 6. Our days follow a warm rhythm of play, nourishment, practical work, stories, songs, and time outdoors. Together we tend the garden, care for small animals, make bread and tortillas, and mark the turning year through seasonal gatherings and festivals. Embrace seasonal celebrations—from autumn harvest gatherings and winter light festivals to spring planting rituals and summer solstice joys— and steady rhythms of circle time, stories, songs, free play, and "real work" like baking and gardening that rhythmically connect children to the world's wonders.
Bread & Blossom is more than a preschool. It is a world of support. It is a garden of wonder, magic, and peace for your child ~ and you. Our days are filled with rhythms and tasks that resonate with our essential needs as people in connection and collaboration.
Spark imagination with handmade natural paints and inks; nourish with organic, ancestral meals (yogurt, bone broth, ferments). Small class honors play as sacred work, fostering body, heart, mind, and spirit. Enroll and watch your child flourish!
Community-oriented, play-based, and rooted in a nourishing food culture, Bread & Blossom offers a thoughtful rhythm that truly considers the needs of early childhood development, while creating a beautiful balance of child growth, family involvement, and shared daily life.
They were warm, attentive, and playful. We could tell they truly cared about him and we felt completely comfortable leaving him in their care. They learned his cues, responded to him with patience and affection, spent time outdoors with him, and created a calm, nurturing environment.
The rhythm of the school really considers the needs of early childhood development and provides a solid balance of child growth and family involvement.
